In collaboration with Pili Weeber Production Design, I created a series of custom wallpaper designs featured prominently throughout the #StrongBlackLens episodic series. For Episode 1: Owning Our Image, which explores how photography shapes personal narratives and celebrates the shared Black experience, I was tasked with designing a wallpaper that evoked the nostalgic warmth of a grandmother’s home in Louisiana.
This intricate wallpaper served as a key element in grounding the set’s atmosphere, enhancing the storytelling by creating an environment that felt both intimate and culturally resonant.

EXPERIENCE SUMMARY
PRODUCTION GRAPHIC DESIGN
CREATIVE VISION
The goal was to design a wallpaper that seamlessly captured the essence of a Louisiana grandmother’s home—a space filled with comfort, history, and character. Drawing inspiration from traditional Southern patterns and textures, I developed designs that felt timeless and personal, while aligning with the series' overarching themes of storytelling and heritage.
Each pattern was crafted to complement the set, enriching the visual narrative and allowing the environment to serve as an extension of the characters’ stories.
DESIGN CONSTRAINTS
The project required creating a wallpaper that struck a balance between boldness and subtlety, ensuring it added depth to the set without detracting from the focus on the characters and their stories. Achieving this level of authenticity demanded careful attention to texture, color, and scale, as well as a thoughtful integration of cultural motifs.
Additionally, I needed to develop multiple design options within tight production timelines, requiring a combination of efficiency and creativity to deliver high-quality results.
KEY INSIGHTS
This project emphasized the power of design in shaping meaningful environments that support storytelling. By creating wallpaper designs that felt both personal and culturally significant, I was able to contribute to a series that celebrates identity and the art of image-making. The experience reinforced my ability to craft environments that resonate deeply with their intended audience, blending technical skill with artistic vision to elevate visual storytelling.
